What is a computer Virus?
It is a computer program that can duplicate itself and infect a computer without the knowledge or permission of the owner.
How does a computer virus spread?
It spreads from one computer to the next by e-mail, across a network (cables or wi-fi), on a floppy disk, CD, DVD, USB Memory Stick or even by smart phone or PDA.
What is Malware?
Malware is short for Malicious Software and is designed to infiltrate and damage a computer without the knowledge or permission of the owner.
What is Adware?
It is software that downloads and displays adverts on a system, usually buried within software that is being downloaded by the owner.
What is Spyware?
It is a type of Malware that is secretly installed onto a system to collect information about the users. Stores do this to profile adverts, others do it to try and obtain personal information, banks account details, passwords, etc.
What is a Trojan?
A Trojan, or ’Trojan Horse’, is a form of Malware that appears to be doing something useful but in fact allows unauthorised access. It is designed to allow hackers remote access to a computer.
How do I protect my computer?
By using an internet security package, an anti spyware package and making sure that they update on a regular basis.
Do you recommend any particular software?
We recommend Norton Internet Security and PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Both are used on all our machines.
Why did you choose the name ’Druid’?
Playing in a band many years ago we played at the Stonehenge Festivals and the name sort of stuck. Plus We have a strong interest in Stone Circles, Ley Lines and of course the Druids.
